if you remember correctly (or want to scroll down to view the appallingly few posts i have made since june to read for yourself), we left hong kong in typhoon weather.
guess what we returned to?
it was a good return to life as we know it. i love love love hong kong and in creepy and typhoony weather, with warm wind and rain whipping around you and the roads deserted, life is very very good.
yesterday charles and i decided that we would escape the demands of domesticity (we're still on holidays!) and spend some "us" time. can i just go on the record as saying that taking four kids on holiday enhances one's natural snappiness? (especially charles', not mine). we had a good summer, but it was full on. i only read seven books if that is any indicator.
at 9.45am, i said to charles, "let's get out of here and go and see the dark knight." he thought this to be a fine idea (and let's face it, it is a great idea), so we raced off, got dressed and trotted into the rain. of course there were no other people on the roads, but hey, there were no vehicles either. how were we going to get to cyberport? my brilliant charles dashed up to the hospital and eventually flagged a taxi that was letting someone out, but since it is illegal to pick up passengers in typhoon eight, the taxi kept it's metre running which meant we ended up paying $50 for a $17 fare. oh well, that's life.
the movie was very good, very dark and multidimensional, very unlike all the other batmans. there was so much more than the goodies and baddies in there. in case you haven't seen it, i will leave it there, but i will say that i loved seeing hong kong in the movie. what a huge bonus it is to see your city (the dry sky version), on the big screen, gorgeous and fascinating.
we did some grocery shopping (i was hankering for cous cous, charles just wanted plain greens, and the sausage supply in the house was getting a bit low so we picked some up for the kids) and then we headed home.
it was still typhoon eight. we managed to hang out with the kids for a few more hours, and then at 6.30pm i realised i was falling asleep. i barely remember threatening to cut sela's hair but i am pretty sure i did. and i went to bed and now it is 4.30am and i have been awake for two hours. sebastian and jasper are awake as well. GOOD HEAVENS.
would i do it over again just to have that canadian summer? yes i would. i would change parts of the summer, but we'll do it again.
